How do I choose a screen?

How do I choose a screen?

When choosing a professional monitor that will be part of your workflow for years to come, it is important to make the right considerations before purchasing. The market is very large and there are a wide range of options to choose from.

To ensure that your output matches the image displayed on the screen, the most important characteristic of the monitor is its accurate colour reproduction. Here it is important that colours match the industry standard colour spaces used by professionals in design, photography and video editing. Next, it is important to take into account colour calibration capabilities as well as software.

It is alpha omega to calibrate your monitor regularly so that you can rely on the monitor to display accurate colours.

In addition, the most colour-sensitive applications require periodic calibration of the monitor. For these applications, a monitor with hardware color calibration capability is required so that the ideal color profile is stored in an onboard chip on the monitor that is not affected by graphics settings.

So to ensure that you get an optimally calibrated monitor, and thus achieve the best possible results, we recommend that you make use of one of the following calibration tools:

X-Rite i1Display Pro - Monitor Calibration
X-Rite i1Display Pro Plus - Monitor Calibration Tool
Datacolor SpyderX Pro
Datacolor SpyderX Elite

Of course, the needs of different users vary greatly, as some monitors are built with more advanced software than others. Here is an overview of what the monitor you need should include:

- For photographers or others who primarily deal with image editing in Photoshop, it is important that your monitor is capable of displaying sRGB, Adobe RGB and Display P3. Here it is recommended that use be made of BenQ SW product line or Eizo's ColorEdge product line.

Eizo

- For designers working with Illustrator, a monitor containing sRGB and Display P3 would be the optimal one to use. Here you will be able to achieve the best possible end result.
Here the following are recommended:
BenQ SW271 - 27"

If you want a monitor where you have plenty of workspace, then you have the option of making use of EIZO 31" CG319X or BenQ SW321C - 32". These monitors are both over 30" in size, giving you the best possible conditions for your workflow.

It's very natural to look for a good monitor at a cheap price. However, we strongly advise against compromising quality for price. As with many things, price and quality are very closely linked. We at Grafisk-Handel have chosen to have two of the market's best monitor manufacturers in our range, namely BenQ and Eizo. These are high quality monitors, which will have a positive effect on your work process, and have high quality in all the monitor's features.
